Ely City Hockey are triumphant in local derby matches against Newmarket

It was a local derby with Newmarket Hockey Club for 3 of the Ely City teams on Saturday 4th October.
Ely City Ladies 1s faced Newmarket 1s at home on a blustery morning. The game was tight and at half time the score was 0-0 at half time. With ten minutes left on the clock Rachel Carpenter converted a penalty flick awarded to Ely and the game ended with a 1-0 win for Ely
In another local derby Ely City Mens 1s were away against Newmarket 1s. After a very quick goal from Newmarket in the first 2 minutes, Ely City fought back with 2 goals from Reece Laffar in the first half. Newmarket came out strong in the second half scoring within the first 3 minutes but Ely weren’t to be deterred and goals from Ollie Beck and Krishna Naidu secured a 4-2 win for Ely.
A strong, clinical display by the Ladies 2s saw them take the lead twice over Newmarket 2s and return home with all three points. After a goalless first half, Charlotte Harris provided the assist for Evie Vaissiere, who slotted a precise shot past the keeper to give Ely the lead 10 minutes into the second half. Newmarket responded quickly, but some excellent saves from debut goalkeeper Hannah Dewey, along with a goal-line clearance from Player of the Match Codie Butcher, kept Ely in contention. Despite this, Newmarket equalised with a strike from the top of the D. Ely’s determination shone through, with tenacious play from Aisling Taylor and Jemima Lacey. Jemima controlled the ball in the D before calmly placing it past the keeper to restore Ely’s lead at 2–1. With eight minutes to go, Ely held firm, finishing strongly to secure the win.
Ely City Mens 2s were at home against Pelicans 2s. A goal 6 minutes in from Charlie Swan-Taylor took Ely to a 1-0 lead at half time. In the second half goals from Quentin Mitchell and another from Chalie Swan-Taylor took Ely to a 3-0 win.
Ely Ladies 3s were away against St Neots 5s. With a number of their players unable to play, Ely lacked attacking strength and despite some great defensive play and some incredible saves by Hannah Dewey in goal they lost 4-0.
Ely Mens 3s played Bourne Deeping 4s at home. Two goals in the first half from Thomas Leach took Ely 2-0 up at half time. Goals from Jamie Cooper and Ollie Rutherford in the second half secured the 4-0 win for Ely City.
