A few last minute changes were needed due to an unfortunate injury to Angelica Ferentinos who was playing the early morning match for the ladies 3's meant that Ely 2's were without a sub or goal keeper for their away match to local team, Newmarket.
Kerry Newson soon stepped back into her goal keeping shoes and played a cracking match making numerous saves. Newmarket were relentless but Ely had their chances and were unlucky not to catch Newmarket on the break - more than once! Ely defended hard, Emily Clarke saving a goal on the line in mid-air and calmly controlling the ball to clear it away from danger. Evie Flack dropped into the position of Sweeper usually playing up front but had a stormer of a game and battled hard despite a tough finish to the game. Midfield worked so hard and made things hard for Newmarket. Unfortunately Newmarket's pressure paid off for them and although not a walk in the park for them, they managed to score a couple of goals from short corners and one from open play making the final score 3-0 to Newmarket.
All in all the whole team played brilliantly and although not everyone has a mention above each one of the team played an awesome game!
Man of the match was awarded to Kerry Newson for a brilliant game - even a few votes from the opposition supporters who could also see how well she played......and Muppet of the match to Skipper Gemma Neal who despite not even playing still managed a couple of misdemeanour's throughout the day to achieve the award- again!
