Hangover epidemic!

Match report 4-11-17
Ely vs South Cambs 0-5 courtesy of Charlotte Dobson

Despite all the challenges thrown at Ely today- Ely did not give up and fought hard against the bargy players of South Cambs resulting in a good match all round and a modest 5-0 loss.

Elys challenge began at 2.29 in the morning with the loss of our beloved gaolie- Emma, due to a sickness bug (possible intoxication)- man down! Evie bravely filled her shoes and took on role as goalie. The next challenge to be thrown at Ely was a broken down car incident from Mo on route to the pitch. But Ely would not be deterred. Becky saved the day and stepped up to play a whole match through her head trauma and although Frankie was thought to have been forgotten on route to the pitch Ely made it to the pitch with 11 players ready (some not so ready) for battle.

The weather was dismal and the warm up gratefully short but the battle commenced against South Cambs at 10.30 at Long Road. Ely’s tactics from training worked well in practice and the press really made life hard for South Cambs. Ely worked hard to keep a good shape and were very successful at man marking some rather bargy players. There was lots of talking and structure and although 2 sneaky flick goals from the side were conceded Ely kept their heads up and carried on fighting. Evie hid some balls in her pants (cheeky) but made some excellent saves. Although padded up in her goalie kit armour a sneaky ball managed to injure Evie leading to a small break and Gemma imagining another conceded goal.

In the second half three more goals were conceded but Ely managed some good bursts of play around their attacking half. Some good attempts were made on goal with some excellent passing up the pitch form Kirstie, Molly and some good breaks from Charlotte Ditter. Lynettes legs never stopped throughout the match. South Cambs had also been practicing their press and made our life difficult to push the ball out but Gemma and Karen did their best to fire balls through their wall and into some space. A couple of comical falls were also witnessed.

The day ended with some well earnt pizza in South Cambs little hut. Man of match went to Karen and Dobbie. Muppet was claimed by Gemma and Dobbie for imaging goals, falling over, hanging and getting their muppet and man mixed up.

Despite the score and dismal weather Ely played their hearts out and never gave up. They went for those 50-50 balls, used their advice from training and gave Cambridge South a good run for their money and a harder game than they were most likely expecting.

Carry on the good work Ely - we are going in the right direction.

Over and out- from dobbie and muppet xxx
