On Saturday the 11th of November Ely City women’s 2nds played a tough match against St Ives womens 3rds.
The game wasn’t off to a good start after finding Connie had made a fatal error with someone elses ball bag, having swapped our ball bag with Cambridge Souths cone bag, we managed to find a couple of balls to warm up on. Ely started strong, connecting fast passes with vigour however at half time it was 4-0 to St Ives due to one of their players being a mini Usain Bolt, outrunning everyone in her path.
We entered the second half having been given some pointers from Emily Radcliffe from Ely’s first team which we took under our wings but still couldn’t manage to beat St Ives although it did mean Gemma managed to beat her mini Usain Bolt, ending with a giant cheer from Gem’s side.
More fatalities set out through the match such as Emma, our keeper, slide tackling not only a St Ives player to the floor, but also her very own captain, Gem. We then had a eventful short corner when Charlotte took a strike on the knee cap but soldiered on till full time and we luckily have doctor Becky in the team who took a look at Charlotte’s knee cap which had doubled in size.
Although we had optimism before the game it was not to be and at the final whistle the score was 6-0.
As a team we voted Charlotte Dittner and Molly Shaw joint man of the match and Gemma Neal as muppet.
