A frustrating and difficult match presented itself to the Ladies 2s this weekend as they took on Cambs City 6.
Maybe the lack of players this weekend, as we were, after all down from 16 to 14 players, had an impact on the game, but Ely seemed unable to gain any real momentum and instead endured the relentless attacks from Cambs City.
The first half ended 1-0 to the home team. Ely having been able to hold them off until just before half time.
The second half saw Ely concede 4 more goals.
A number of good saves by keeper Abbie Ashman, an off the line save by defender Evelyn Parks and some tenacious defending by Abi Day stopping an attempt at goal from the floor after taking a tumble, kept the score below 5. Although Ely struggled against the Cambridge side there were some moments of good play, with Ciara Comley having a couple of shots on goal and some good passing in midfield, however Ely were just unable to find that finishing touch.
A disappointing afternoon for Ely and their 3rd consecutive defeat sees Ely with lots of work to do if they don’t want to find themselves in a relegation battle.
Ely will face bottom of the league Royston, next weekend in the hope they can secure 3 points, which if not will see them fall into the bottom spot.
Player of the match went to Isobel Alvarez for her solid defending.
