Ely Ladies 2s v St Neots Ladies 3s

After a long lockdown Ely were eager to get back onto the pitch and continue after their long awaited win against Royston. Thankfully the snow had melted and the rain finally cleared as the team all gathered outside the clubhouse for a strong tactical talk from our Captain Gemma.
Soon the first half began as Ely cautiously began play. Gradually picking up momentum Ely were in full swing as they settled into the game as we saw a cross shot from Emily to Dobbie allowing dobbie to strike the ball beating the keeper and giving Ely the lead 15 minutes into the first half. Only for another goal to be scored not long after but an appeal from St Neots for a foot, saw the goal disallowed. The first half continued nonetheless and we saw some brilliant play from our mids not allowing St Neots to get the ball down into our d. Soon it came to an end making it 1-0 to Ely.
Before long the second half began with St Neots starting. Their ability to apply pressure onto our players as they swapped their formations allowed Ely to channel their concentration into the defensive efforts on the St Neots forwards. With Ciara Comley making some excellent runs we soon saw another short corner for Ely at which the ball rebounded allowing Ely to strike again with Charlotte Beck making contact and sending the ball over the goal line. This now meant Ely was 2 up against St Neots and this could have not been a better moment as Ely’s drive to keep control of the match allowed another short corner to be taken with an excellent strike sadly for it to just go wide of the post. St Neots efforts were accounted for as they fought back harder and luckily Ely coped and managed causing only one defensive short.
The final whistle then went and Ely won 2-0. It was a perfect first match and the efforts from both teams were commendable.
