Ely travelled to Cambridge, to face 6th place City, in the hope of maintaining top spot in the league table.

A tough first half with end to end play, Ely dealt well with City’s quick attacks down the wing. Ely’s defence held out and thanks to some great saves from keeper, Kat Bamber, City were unable to capitalise.
Ely weren’t short of their own attacking play and chances. Midfielders Gemma Bridges, Kendle Putter, Abi Day and super sub Emilie Heyes linked up with some lovely hockey feeding the ball through to forwards, Zara Gilbert and Ruby Beeney, however Ely were unable to convert the chances they did have and the first half ended in deadlock.

As the rain came down in apocalyptic fashion, the second half started. Ely were strong and continued to create chances with Zara Gilbert making some solo runs into the D. After being awarded a short corner, Kendle Putter was able to outsmart City’s defence and strike the ball into City’s backboard, giving Ely the lead.

City responded and upped the pressure on Ely however Ely maintained a strong stable defence with Amanda Baxter, Emily Radcliffe, Fran Flack, Ciaran Hornby, captain Gemma Neal and super sub Riley Hornby managing to quash the chances City tried to create. The final moments of the game saw Ely defend against a few short corners, but quick responses from keep Kat Bamber meant City were unable to get the goal they were looking for. The final whistle came, securing Ely's victory, three points and their place in top spot.

Player of the match went to Kendle Putter abs muppet of the match to Emilie Heyes for forgetting we’d swapped ends at half time and attacking in the wrong direction!
