This weekend saw Ely’s 2s travel to Haverhill for a late game. Haverhill started off strongly and Ely soon learnt they were not in for an easy game, Haverhill kept the pressure high and had many penetrations to the Ely D. Ely quickly found their footing and settled into the game, keeping the defence tight and using Polly and Gem as outlets on both wings. Both sides had opportunities to take the lead in the first half and thanks to a fantastic solo run by Emily as she weaved her way through several Haverhill players and finished with a cracking strike to which Abi made sure it hit that back board. Haverhill came back out strongly in the second half and we’re ready to get the equaliser! Ely had to fend off many Haverhill attacks leaving defence wide open and forcing Abbie to make some great saves. Haverhill were finally able to capitalise in a brief lapse in concentration of Ely's back line and bring the score line to 1-1. Ely fort back to keep possession in Haverhill's D however we’re unable to find the back of the net.
The game was drawing to the close and Haverhill were gunning for the win, winning 12 short corners in a row! Unfortunately for them they were up against man of the match Gemma Neal and were just not able to get a clean shot away!
