Ely Ladies 2s v St Ives 3s
The first match back after the Christmas break saw Ely Ladies 2s travel to St Ives for a mid morning push back.
The Ladies 2s had to sought the help of the ladies 3s this weekend with so many players being unavailable. But determined to enjoy the match and give St Ives a challenge the girls headed out to the misty, dreary weather.
Ely started strong with the majority of play in the St Ives half. Although St Ives tried to break, thanks to some solid, organised defending, they were unable to cause Ely much concern.
With Ely in possession of the ball, Amanda Baxter made an incredible pass from within Ely's half, right through the middle of St Ives midfield to Abi Day who outsmarted the St Ives defence with a clever goal that crept in past the St Ives keeper. 1-0 to Ely.
Unlike the last time the two sides met, St Ives were unable to pull a goal back in the second half. Ely maintained concentration and despite chances were also unable to capitalise on their lead. Ely controlled the majority of the game, maintaining possession, continuing to attack and ceasing any attempts St Ives made to equalise.
The match finished 1-0 with Ely deservingly taking all 3 points.
Player of the match was Abi Day
