We'll 'ave 'em at home!

From the side lines and whilst enjoying the beautiful sunshine, the ladies 2s match v Kettering was an exciting watch. The game saw the home side take the lead by 2 goals in the first half. The first goal coming after just 8 minutes from a short corner which was slipped past the Kettering goalie by Gemma Bridges for her second goal of the season. The second goal at 20 minutes was a superb top of the D strike by Ruby Beeney, which gave the Kettering keeper no chance, making this her second goal of the season. As the first half ended, Kettering began to push players forward, clearly looking for first half goal which thanks to some solid defending, didn’t come. As the second half commenced, Ely Ladies had perhaps become a little too confident with their two-goal advantage leading to Kettering finding a way back into the game. Kettering managed play the ball through to their forwards and despite the efforts of Ely’s defence, Kettering were able to score their first goal of the game. A few moments later and after being awarded a short corner, Kettering were able to get a strike off bringing the game level at 2-2 with 20 minutes still to go. Back to the centre spot, Ely had the push back and were quick of the mark. Exploiting Kettering’s vulnerability, a quick pass down the left to Abi Day, and out wide to Molly Shaw on the right, who was able to cross the ball into the D for Sarah Sutton to touch the ball into the goal on the left post for her third goal of the season, saw Ely quickly regain their lead over Kettering. A tense 15 minutes remained, however Ely were able to hold of any attempts by Kettering and still create their own chances, but as the final whistle came, Ely had got the win and banked the 3 points. Sitting in 4th place with one match to go, Ely face top of the league in their final match.
Player of the match went to Ali Woods.
