This week the ladies 3rds took on Newmarket 3rds. This looked to be an evenly matched event with Ely going in hoping for a win. Unfortunately the only win for the girls was the coin toss!

The match started well. Good chances from both teams. It was end to end hockey. Sadly, a chance in the D for Newmarket resulted in a goal (with a little help from the umpire).

Ely did have their attacking chances but unfortunately these didn't end in a goal. Newmarket's second came near the end of the half.

The 3rd half was quite similar. Sam Carford was sending some amazing hits up the field. Polly and Hollie were very effective in picking these up. But unfortunately they didn't turn into a goal. Catherine Norris did very well in midfield and it was during this half that we discovered Dawn is a defender! Who knew?!

A Newmarket goal was won despite captain Di Redman- forgetting she wasn't in goal- doing the worm in front of goal. She did hit it off the line but it was then chipped over her stick. Emma did save her first penalty flick after taking out a Newmarket player, though Emma was adamant that "there was noting wrong with that tackle!"

It ended a 4-0 loss. But this did not reflect he effort shown by the girls. Now bottom of the league, Ely 3rds still aim to get a win this season. Player of the match was Hollie Chapman who did marvellously in midfield.
