Ely ladies had a mixture of youth and experience against Wisbech. They went in hoping to get something out of the game. It was a strong side. Diane Redman had experimented with the line up moving some experience up into midfield and putting some younger legs in defence. This was a change for the girls, with a few playing out of position.

The game started well. The girls played the best that they had this season. They conceded their first goal midway through the first half. A cheeky flick from Wisbech went high into the top corner- inexperienced goalie Di Redman has no idea his to deal with that.

Emma Blickem forgot that she was Sweeper and continued to kick the ball. The second goal from Wisbech came off a shirt corner as they fired a thundering shot into the lower left side. At the end of the half Ely were conceding short after short but successfully defended 10 shirt corners in a row- Wisbech were becoming a tad frustrated with our excellent defence!

At half time, fit the first time this season, the girls were happy with their play. They just had to admit that they were against a better side. They went into the next half with their heads held high- ready to have fun!

The team did just that! There was some great link up play between the Watts sisters up the field and Polly Copper and Vicky Rhodes also had a lot of possession. Wisbech were still attacking hard and Queenie Cooper did concede a penalty flick by stoping the ball with her body. (Better a penalty than a goal right?) Wisbech flicked the ball high and wide! It was still 2-0! Unfortunately it didn't stay like that and it did end 3-0.

The girls really enjoyed the game. Both teams played well and had fun! Player of the match was Super Keeper (even if I do say so myself) Diane Redman but half the team were nominated and shared a Chocolate Orange!
