The day did not start well with a replacement goalie needing to be found at the eleventh hour. Fortunately Diane Redman stood up to the challenge and donned the kit with determination. She played fearlessly and with strong defence and support from Catherine Norris, Sophie Russell, Jessica Felton-Page and Sam Carford they managed to keep the Newmarket attackers at bay.
At half time Ely City were 1-0 down but were not to be beaten. With support from the defence the Midfielders were able to push up the pitch. With good communication from the centre players, Cathy Tapley, Helen Parks and Natalie Jones the ball was passed out to the wings enabling Livy Lawrence, Chantal Leher, Ella Cooper and Charlotte (Max) Weston to work the ball back into the opposing D. The team were awarded a few short corners and the opportunity came for Livy to pass the ball to Max who managed to knock it into the goal.
The final score was 1-1 and it was a very enjoyable match. Player of the match was awarded to Charlotte Weston for scoring the first goal of the season. The match was a great opportunity for our younger and less experienced players to practice and develop their skills . Newcomers Jessica, Livy and Chantal were a welcome addition to the team, with Chantal never having played hockey before!
