Ely’s men’s first team took yet another trip down the M11 with a squad of 11 players for a meeting with havering men’s first team.

Ely started strong as usual knowing that this game of all games was a must win game. A slight dip in Ely concentration saw the home side receive a short corner, that resulted in them somehow winning a penalty flick. This was put away by the home side leaving Ely with work to do again. The Ely men did not get disheartened by this goal and kept on battling and slowly gaining more and more possession and advancing further up the pitch, this pressure and passion lead to Ely receiving a short corner, which was scored by an excellent deflection by Dan Jolly, this great goal spurred the Ely spirit to continue to attack and build on the fast equalising goal.

Ely didn’t have to wait much longer after their first goal to see them awarded yet another short corner, this again was deflected goal wards by Dan Jolly who managed to lift his deflection over the top of the keeper. This saw Ely go into the lead, and with the Ely defence working well to keep the onslaught of Havering at bay the visitors went into half time with a well-deserved 2-1 lead.

Ely tried to start the second half as they finished the first half with a strong possession game and some great work through the midfield, only to be punished by the home team on the breakbbringing the scores back level to 2-2. Shortly after this goal Ely went on the attack again, a frustrated Chris Purllant after getting stick tackled time and time again gave the opposition a piece of their own medicine which saw him unfortunately receive a yellow card. This is then where the home time capitalised and scored another 3 goals in quick succession.

Mr Dan Jolly with his effort through the midfield and is goal scoring prowess saw him be named man of the match.

Overall a good performance from the Ely men, now they are scoring goals a win is evidently in the pipeline.
