meep, meep, Marc "RoadRunner" Hunt gets two goals as Ely win 3:1 at home.

Neil Dodsworth13 Oct 2013 - 19:37

Ely 2nd XI return to form with a solid win against a good Peterborough side, a must win game in what will likely be a very competitive league.

For once Ely lined up at the start of the game on the back of a solid warm up, everyone fired up and ready for the game. From the off Peterborough were put under pressure eventually conceding a short corner. Tim Reynolds briefly winding back the years buried the ball inside the post at a rate of knots, possibly luck but he claimed otherwise.

Against the run of play Ely conceded after a Peterborough player dribbled the ball (with his feet) around the centre backs and fired home through the legs of Ian Grange. Ely tried to appeal but the goal stood despite the embarrassed red faces of the Peterborough foreword line.

Ely immediately countered winning a short corner which was clinically finished by captain Neil Dodsworth but was deemed dangerous, while complaining about the decision Peterborough took advantage of the out of place captain and broke down their right side but solid defending saw the attack faze out.

Marc "Roadrunner" Hunt repeatedly turned his marker and with a "beep, beep" finished twice in quick succession, although the entire team held his breath as a rounded the keeper for his second as the ball only just crossed the line we think due to a sneeze in the crowd.

The second half finished 3:1 to Ely.

The second half was much less eventful both sides struggling to make chances, a special note goes to Tim Reynolds whose attacking aerial landing at the feet of his own defenders. Both teams had a number of short corners but none were converted, Neil Dodsworth coming closest after a well drilled short corner whisked past his diving stick.

Peterborough finished the game on top against the tired legs of Ely but their efforts came to nothing, a solid performance from the entire team, and Ely's 3rd win.

Man of the Match Chris Beaumont had a great game, during the warm down he was passed the compliment "you have almost learnt to play hockey", both flattering and true.
