This tale starts on a cold Friday afternoon, at the “De Luca Cucina” restaurant on Regents street. I do recall saying a bottle of Nero Pinot please which duly arrived. Some hours past, a change of location or five and some fine conversation and a missed taxi opportunity gave me a fine “warm up” opportunity back to Cottenham.

Morning with a shock, quick text to captain Dodsworth, “can I have a lift”, ne replied “no full car”, … and then a phone call. So here I am with my second warm up opportunity, an 8 mile bike ride to the Leys school. I would say the fine morning sunshine and fresh air was a pleasure but it wasn't. However I was only 15 mins late, which was a mild surprise, unlock the shock of also getting a puncture.

Now whilst I was away, some stuff happened. We didn't score from 30 short corners (in my absence, take note). Neil threw an almost perfect aerial, it would have been perfect had he been aiming over the fence and off the pitch.

The game wasn't much to write about to be honest, in typical fashion, Cambridge South took the lead (by only one this time), after a Keystone Cops defending moment, and the forward roofed his shot, Grangie almost got it, he said. The goal seemed to wake up most of the team (myself excluded) and we promptly dispatched 3 short corners by playing it “about a bit”.

Back to the pub and MOTM winner Sam Dunkley took his award with some blushes but a worldly wise twinkle in his eye. DOTD was a surprisingly close run affair with myself and Dodsworth in the running. Captain Dodsworth then proceeded to follow the “phone a friend” approach until he got the answer he wanted and to be fair I deserved.

So in summary, we won and don't go out on your works Christmas do, with the honourable intention of coming home early, and by early I don’t mean early morning. Otherwise you may end up typing a match report of similar or superior quality to this ….
