On another Saturday afternoon Ely welcomed the visitors of March Town Hockey Club. The strong sunshine promised that it would be another difficult game.
The match pushed back at 12:45. Ely started strong with a few close chances early on; it was certain it was going to be a tough match against a very physical March side. And shortly after the first 15 minutes a pass from the edge of the D played to Chris Reay ended up in the back of the net. A few more chances fell for Ely in the first half but nothing that could come off. Ely held on to the one goal lead until half time.
From a motivational speech from Ely captain Graeme Allott, Ely were ready to go out and fight for the second half in hope of holding onto the 3 points. Ely continued to play the ball around nicely and 20 minutes into the second half Chris Reay doubled Ely’s lead.
Tensions were running high in the second half as Ely tried to hold onto what they had, and March were trying to fight back to get something out of the game. The game began to get sloppy with poor tackles coming in from both sides. But the more persistent challenges from March resulted in a couple green cards.
March continued to knock on the door with a few close chances but with some good saves from Jon Evans keeping the opposition out. Ely was able to hold on until the final whistle blew with a final score 2-0 to Ely.
