Ely can be very pleased with a well earned point away from home, but can justifiably be a little disappointed not to have taken all three having had a greater percentage of possession and produced some scintillating attacking play.

Traveling to St. Neots, the club went with a decidedly young squad. The faith in their ability was well rewarded as the performance was controlled with some exciting flowing attacks. The linkages between players posed lots of questions of St. Neots defence, and frustrated them as they struggled for long periods of the game to retain possession of the ball.

From the very start Ely showed great adventure pushing forward at pace putting St.Neots under early pressure. This coupled with tenacity to win the ball back quickly meant Ely enjoyed a lions share of possession. The energy did not relent and Ely continued to push forward throughout the first half, managing to find holes in the opponents defence creating a number of shooting opportunities.

Both sides had their chances to get that crucial winning goal and take all three points, St. Neots moment coming just before half time as Tim made a series of superb saves. This however did not worry Ely who's half time chat was dominated by the resolve to play the fast tempo passing game. They ran onto the pitch for the second half with confidence not yet seen from this young developing side. If St. Neots were hoping for the energy and pace to slow, they were soon to be disappointed as some hard yards were put in by Tom, Ben, Sammy, Ted and Owen up front. The attacking moves kept coming, and Ely were rewarded with a number of short corners and the ball angonisingly rolling across the goal line on one occation.

Despite Ely's best endeavours right up to the final whistle, honours were even as St.Neots defence stood resolute. However it is Ely who can take more way from the match. This was the match the young players grew in confidence and stature.
