4. Injury Policy

Ely City Hockey Club is committed to the principles of England Hockey’s Injury Report Policy which can be found HERE . In order to ensure the safety and integrity of hockey, ECHC is required to submit data of injuries sustained across the sport so that trends can be identified and reported in addition to undertaking local consideration of the learning from any incident where injury occurred.

It is a requirement that all injuries meeting the following criteria are reported via the England Hockey website.

  • Treatment from a first aid specialist (e.g. Team doctor/ first responder)
  • Hospital treatment
  • Subsequent visit(s) to a GP

ECHC responsibilities

In the event an injury occurred to an ECHC club member, including umpires and coaches, an injury report must be completed. Where an injury occurs during a match the team or vice captain is responsible for completing the form. Where injury occurs during training, it is the responsibility of the head coach or coach to complete the form.

Injury reports must be completed as soon after the event as possible or when the injured player reports to a club official that they have sought medical advice following injury. While forms can be completed manually or electronically, they are to be electronically forwarded to the club secretary via email to elycityhockeyclub@gmail.com for storage in accordance with GDPR. Completed forms will be stored for 10 years or until the individual is 25 years old in line with England Hockey guidance.

ECHC committee will review all injury reports to ensure all appropriate follow up action is taken and ensure any and all learning is acted upon to prevent further incidents from occurring and ensure the safety of all club members.

Action to be taken by club members

In order to support the safety of all club members, all players and umpires must complete the full membership form recording details of medical conditions and emergency contact information before participation in any pitch-based activity. For club members aged under 18, this is to be completed by the parent or guardian. All players are responsible for ensuring their membership information is accurate at least annually.

In the event a player is injured and subsequently decides to seek medical advice after the event, it is their responsibility to inform their team captain if the injury occurred during a match, or coach if the injury occurred at a training session.
